Sammakka Saralamma Jatara: More Than One Core Devotees Visited Medaram So Far. Unending flow of devotees poured into Medaram village to have a darshan of the deities Sammakka Saralamma on Friday, the ‘Magha Shudda Pournami’ day.
Medaram (Warangal): Unending flow of devotees poured into Medaram village to have a darshan of the deities Sammakka Saralamma on Friday, the ‘Magha Shudda Pournami’ day.
The day is also called ‘Sammakka Punnami’ in local parlance and is considered very auspicious in view of the fact that both the deities Sammakka and Saralamma adorn the altars. The altars of both deities are submerged with the lumps of jaggery, which is called ‘Bangaram’ by the devotees.
The devotees passing along the altars throw the jaggery lumps, coconuts, turmeric and vermillion onto the altar while chanting the names of the deities. Jaggery melted in the coconut water created sludge and that covered the entire temple premises. According to the official sources the number of devotees visited the temple crossed one crore mark before the noon hours and the number is expected to reach 1.30 crore by Saturday morning.
Though the devotees in the queue line moved peacefully, on several occasions, the crowds in the public areas jostled with each other to reach the queue line. Following which the police are forced to jump into action to bring order.
The police used force and resorted to mild lathi charge on the road opposite to the temple. On Friday, about 30 lakh devotees arrived at Medaram and the APSRTC buses have transported about six lakh devotees on the day.
In view of allegations that police are allowing their friends and families to have darshan directly through the VIP entrance, the police have suspended all the VIP passes and also restricted the entry to police personnel and their families.
Mulugu MLA Seetakka is present all through the day at the temple premises and has been monitoring the conduct of jatara.Government Chief Whip Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy, Tribal Welfare Minister Pasupuleti Bala Raju and Warangal district in-charge minister Ramreddy Venkat Reddy have visited Medaram on Friday and had darshan of the deities. Later speaking to the press persons, minister Bala Raju said the government has been focusing on the development of the tribal communities.
