Hyderabad: Festive atmosphere prevailed in several parts of the city after the Telangana Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

Telangana supporters were seen bursting firecrackers, distributing sweets and taking out victory rallies from afternoon till late in the night.

The office of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which spearheaded the separate State movement for the last 13 years, was draped in pink with hundreds of activists and party leaders sprinkling the colour all over them akin to the Holi festival. Activists distributed sweets and danced to the tunes of popular folk songs of the region.

With main leaders including party president K Chandrasekhar Rao away in New Delhi, K Srinivas Yadav, Bonthu Rammohan and Erolla Srinivas and others participated in the celebrations.

Party functionaries of Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and other political parties including Telangana Rashtriya Lok Dal (TRLD) and non-political groups besides Telangana employees in various government offices celebrated the occasion at their respective offices.

Leaders and activists made a beeline to BJP headquarters in Nampally and city office in Barkatpura soon after local television channels broke the news of the passage of Telangana Bill in the Lok Sabha. BJP leaders T Rajeshwar Rao, NVSS Prabhakar, S Kumar, S Prakash Reddy recollected sacrifices of Telangana martyrs on this occasion. Meanwhile at celebrations held at Vikarabad, BJP leader C Ashok Yadav expressed thanks to intellectuals, doctors, lawyers, government employees among others for their immense contribution to the movement. Similarly, Telangana Martyrs Memorial statue at Gun Park was flooded with politicians and members of non-political groups. Leaders of Congress, TRS, BJP and TRLD paid tributes to martyrs on this occasion. TJAC delegation led by its co-chairman Mallepalli Lakshmaiah, TPF leaders M Vedakumar and others, TNGO and TGO leaders besides members of several student unions visited the place.

Meanwhile, instant celebrations broke out at Arts College in Osmania University, the nerve centre of the Telangana movement. Students gathered on the campus raising slogans of 'Jai Telangana' and greeted each other. While TRS affiliate union, GHMEU, took a procession in the GHMC main office, T gazetted officers Krishna Yadav, Syed Saleemuddin and others burst crackers at their union office in Nampally. Telangana software engineers owing allegiance to Telangana IT Association distributed sweets at Hi-tec City.
