Hyderabad: Hours before former Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar announced the launching of a new party, two of his former cabinet colleagues, Dokka Manikya Varaprasad Rao and P Shankar Rao wrote separate letters to Governor E S L Narsimhan, urging him to order a probe into the corruption charges levelled against Kiran for his actions and decisions taken towards the fag-end of his tenure as the CM.

Varaprasad in his letter said that there was widespread criticism that Kiran had disposed of a large number of files at the last minute for extraneous considerations. He said that in the interests of the Congress party and the government, the Governor should review all the major decisions taken by Kiran and order a probe. He also sought a review of his decisions during his tenure as Rural Development Minister.

Speaking to reporters, Varaprasad alleged that Kiran Reddy amassed around Rs 10,000 crore worth assets before resigning from his post by signing several files. “He also earned money by transferring key officers, and his brother had collected the money," he alleged. He further added that Kiran was floating a political party only to cover up his past wrong-doings.

Shankar Rao said that there was large-scale smuggling of red sanders in the native district of Kiran when he was the Chief Minister. He alleged that Kiran and his brother Santosh Reddy were behind the smuggling of red sanders. Stating that he had already filed a petition against Kiran Reddy in the Supreme Court, Rao stated that the apex court had directed the Chief Secretary in September last to submit a detailed report before it on the entire issue. But till date, the Chief Secretary had not submitted any report to the apex court. Rao also wrote to CBI director, asking him to investigate Kiran Reddy's role in the smuggling of red sanders.
