Hyderabad: The State Election Commission (SEC) will issue the schedule for holding elections to mandal parishads and zilla parishads in a day or two. As desired by the Supreme Court in its verdict over the local body elections issue, State Election Commissioner P Ramakanth Reddy convened a meeting with the officials and discussed election schedule. The government has already submitted reservation list to be followed in the elections.

Informed sources said that the schedule would be issued before Sunday.

The apex court ordered the SEC to conduct elections for MPTC and ZPTC by issuing notification within two days. In all, 1,093 zilla parishad territorial constituencies (ZPTCs) and 14,591 mandal parishad territorial constituencies (MPTCs) in the State will go to elections soon.

Out of the 1,093 ZPTCs, 202 ZPTCs are reserved for STs, 222 for SCs, 356 for BC-women and 415 for general. Likewise, the government also decided reservations for ZP chairman posts. Out of 22 posts, nine would be left for general category, seven for BCs, four for SCs and two for STs.

The government fixed 8.15 per cent posts to STs, 18.25 per cent to SCs and 34 per cent to BCs in MPTC and ZPTC election. The term of the MPTC and ZPTC ended by July 2011 and since then, they have been under the control of special officers in the absence elected councils. The panchayatraj polls could not be held till now as the issue was pending in the court.

The Court ordered the Commission to conduct MPTC and ZPTC elections after the municipal elections are scheduled for March 30 and the general elections. The mandal parishad development officers and chief executive officers of zilla parishads were asked by the SEC to publish the photo electoral rolls of respective MPTCs and ZPTCs by March 10.

With the SC order, all the local body elections would be completed before the constitution of new governments in the two states- residuary Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The government had already completed gram panchayat elections in July 2013.
