Minister Kollu Ravendra Photo: Thehansindia E-PaperVijayawada: The State government will form committees at village level to monitor the functioning of liquor shops, said the Minister for Excise and BC Welfare, Kollu Ravindra.

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, Ravindra said that the government would form committees with the members of self-help groups, local teachers and elected representatives. These committees would monitor the functioning of the liquor shops including the maximum retail price, timings and belt shops, he said. The government would take stern action against those who violate the norms and even arrest them, he added. The Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu would make an announcement soon on the formation of village committees, the Minister said.

The Minister further said that the government was committed to develop industrial corridor from Visakhapatnam to Chennai linking all ports along the coast. The Kakinada, Machilipatnam and Krishnapatnam ports would get better road and railway connectivity, he added. He further said that the government had also proposed a new railway line connecting Narsarapur in West Godavari with Machilipatnam in Krishna and Repalle in Guntur districts. This would boost the development of the areas besides goods transportation from the ports.
