APSRTC strike call: CM to hold talks, Reports said nearly 40,000 employees from both the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana demanded their respective managements to release immediately Rs 243 crore related to Credit Cooperative Society and other arrears.

Hyderabad: The talks between leaders of APSRTC Unions and Andhra Pradesh Minister for Transport Siddha Raghava Rao over the proposed employees strike slated for September 11 remained inconclusive and it has now been left to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who would now hold talks with the Unions on the Assembly premises on Wednesday.
Reports said nearly 40,000 employees from both the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana demanded their respective managements to release immediately Rs 243 crore related to Credit Cooperative Society and other arrears.
The managements have used the CCS funds for payment of salaries to the employees. While the Telangana Unions did not serve any strike notice, the APSRTC Unions issued a notice on August 2, calling for a total shut down on September 11.
Union leaders said every month, the funds collected through loan recovery and member’s retirement benefit fund together amounts to about Rs 53 crore and that should be credited to the society within a week. For months the amount was not deposited, they said. In an earlier meeting with the leaders, the APSRTC management expressed its helplessness to repay Rs 170 crore it had utilised from the CCS, as the government was yet to reimburse Rs 700 crore to APSRTC.
The Unions refused to budge and put off the strike since they were in a precarious position as the loans they had applied for the education of their children had been pending for months and they can get the loans only if the management repaid the amount taken from the CCS.
Clearance of 20,000 loans requires Rs 160 crore and settlement of the claims of employees who retired in June and July requires another Rs 20 crore, said APSRTC Employees Union general secretary K Padmakar.
APSRTC has been losing Rs 3 crore per day and losses accumulated since TDP government took amounted to Rs 300 crore. The total loss is put at Rs 2,700 crore, he said.
However, the Telangana government had agreed to pay Rs 250 crore and Unions agreed not to go for strike.
The Transport Minister also had a review meeting with the transport commissioner K Anantharam and other senior officials and advised them to meet the current financial targets. The transport sector has so far earned a revenue of Rs 777 crore till August 31 against the target of Rs 2,500 crore.
