Hyderabad: The Postal department is all set to revive its position by embracing e-commerce. The department is launching a slew of services that would give a fillip to its sagging revenues. Come March next, an array of services such as sale of RTC bus tickets in post offices, sale of non-judicial stamp papers in Telangana, print-to-post facility, sales of 'Sudarshan' and ‘Special Darshan’ tickets of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), web casting of advertisements and setting up of ATMs among others would be made available for public in Andhra Pradesh Circle comprising AP and Telangana States.

Chief Postmaster General of AP Circle B V Sudhakar stated on Saturday that by exploring new revenue-earning avenues they were confident of turning profitable by overcoming losses totally by 2016-17.

The AP Circle brought down the loss of Rs 381 crore in 2012-13 to Rs 265 crore in 2013-14 at a time when the losses had touched Rs 5,424 crore to Rs 5,482 crore at the national level.

The Postmaster General said that the sale of heritage products such as Nirmal handicrafts, Kondapalli toys, Venkatagiri and Pochampalli sarees also could be done through the website. As part of print-to-post service to be launched in December, they would print and post letters with the help of soft copies provided by the customers to given addresses, he stated.

The department is also planning to launch sale of 5,000 ‘Sudarshan’ and ‘Special Darshan’ tickets of TTD every day in selected post offices across AP and Telangana from November and sale of non-judicial stamp papers in Telangana at no extra charge from customers. The government would pay the department 5 per cent commission and the revenue generated would be credited to government on the same day.
