Nandigama (Krishna): In a broad daylight murder, a group of unidentified assailants shot dead 45-year-old businessman Boggavarapu Srisaila Vasu on Tuesday at Nandigama, 50 km from Vijayawada, on Tuesday.

Vasu was running brick manufacturing units in Krishna and Khammam districts. Two assailants, including Vasu’s nephew Hanumantha Rao, allegedly barged into Srisaila Vasu’s office on Nandigama-Chandapuram crossroads and opened fire killing him on the spot. They fled the scene of offence on a motor cycle. Alerted by the gun sound, the victim's driver and assistants rushed into the office only to find their boss lying in a pool of blood. They immediately ferried him to the local hospital where he was declared brought dead. The police, who arrived on the scene, collected fingerprints. There are rumours that one of the assailants had surrendered to the police. An unconfirmed report from Nalgonda said that two persons Hanumantha Rao and one Kaja were arrested in connection with the murder.

Krishna district SP Vijay Kumar told reporters that business rivalry between Vasu and his maternal nephew Gunnam Hanumantha Rao had led to the murder. He said Vasu owed Rs 1 crore to his nephew. A manhunt for assailants was launched in Krishna and Nalgonda districts, he said.
