A delegation of the party MLAs would visit the Srisailam reservoir soon to highlight the failures of both the governments in safeguarding the interests of the arid region, the YSR party leader said.

Hyderabad: YSR Congress Party on Friday said both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments should shun politicising the Srisailam water issue and ensure that Rayalaseema was not parched in the race for one-upmanship and the blame game.

Addressing the press here, party senior leader MV Mysura Reddy said the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was responsible for issuing the GO reducing the water level from 854 feet to 834 and it is now trying to shift the blame and make an issue without looking in a realistic and holistic manner. The 854 mark was set in the design itself while building the project and Bachawat Tribunal too has agreed to the same water level to be maintained.

“Now, the TDP-led AP government is making hue and cry over the issue,” he said. Srisailam Right Bank Canal (SRBC), KC canal and drinking water to Madras city have the official sanction and both governments should sort out the issue without resorting to blame game and see that the Rayalaseema region gets the water, he opined.
