He wanted the people of all walks of life to debate on the ‘Smart Village’ concept draft manual and give their suggestions before it is launch on January 18. He said the government would also allow the suggestions from the people even after launching of the scheme. The scheme would have 20 non-negotiable development indicators that would be implemented on priority by the village level committees to be formed, he added.

The indicators included provision of safe drinking water, roads, drains, electricity, permanent houses, prevention of child marriages and child labour, school dropouts, bank accounts to every family, ensuring total literacy, individual toilets to every family, prevention of maternal and infant deaths, healthy child, soil health card to every farmer and greenery for every village. The government would constitute committees from village ward level to the district level that would monitor these activities to create ‘Smart Village’, the Chief Minister said.

The committees would have volunteers, industrialists, business persons, professionals, government and private employees, elected representatives from the village to the State level, NGO volunteers, NRIs, NRVs and other enthusiastic individuals. He said the government would integrate all welfare schemes of the State and Central governments to reach the target of creating smart villages and smart wards.

The Smart Village concept would also work for capacity development and empowerment, bring social and behavior change, provide good governance, social protection and social inclusion, promotion of technology, communication and innovation and encourage best practices and knowledge management, the Chief Minister said. Ministers Kollu Ravindra and Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, MP Konakalla Narayana Rao, MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao and others were present.
