Visakhapatnam: The Coast Guard district 1014 sounded a high alert for Andhra Pradesh coast on Friday in view of the terrorists’ attempt to intrude India waters off Gujarat on the eve of New Year. DIG of Coast Guard Commander JS Sabharwal told this correspondent that aerial patrolling had been increased by pressing into service more aircrafts covering a distance of 270 km in the Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh.

“We are also focusing more on the oil rigs in Godavari Basin which are being threatened by the terrorists from across the border,’’ Sabharwal said. Drilling is going on without interruption but extra patrolling has been deployed both by the sea and air, he added. The surveillance would increase further in view of US President Barak Obama’s visit to India on January 26. Naval sources said a meeting would be held with port authorities of Gangavaram, VPT and mechainsed boat owners association seeking their cooperation on security measures.
