Anantapur: Minister for Civil Supplies Paritala Sunitha asserted that development of the country would be possible only with the empowerment of women. The Minister, along with Penukonda MLA BK Parthsarathi, Zilla Parishad Chairman Chaman Saab, distributed Rs 19.13 crore loans to 989 women groups at Ramagiri in Raptadu constituency on Tuesday.

Speaking at the public meeting, she said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who believed that the role of women was vital for the development of the country, had set Self-help Groups for women for the first time in the State. She stated that women have will power and determination and they would not keep stop until they reach their goals.

There are 52,374 Self-help Groups in which 5, 53,718 members are there, she said. The Chief Minister, who promised to waive Rs one lakh loan for the Self-help Groups, would keep not only his promise, but also pay interest, she said.

“When I told the Chief Minister about the plight of women who are cooking on firewood, he responded and immediately sanctioned five lakh Deepam connections. Gas connection would be granted to those women, who did not have gas connections, if they apply for it,” she said.

Heaping praises on the Chief Minister, she said that the CM was providing essential commodities comprising Bengal Gram, Red Gram, jaggery, palmolein, ghee etc as Sankranti gift to the people. Chandrababu Naidu also enhanced the pensions of elderly persons, widow and physically challenged, she reminded.
