Nayudamma Award for Two Eminent Women Scientists. Dr. Tessy Thomas, Director, Advanced Systems Laboratory of the Defence Research and Development organization, Hyderabad and Project Director (Mission) of Agni V, and Mrs. Geeta Varadan, Director, Advanced Data Processing Research Institute ISRO, have been chosen for the prestigious Dr. Y. Nayudamma Memorial Award for the year 2014.

HYDERABAD: Dr. Tessy Thomas, Director, Advanced Systems Laboratory of the Defence Research and Development organization, Hyderabad and Project Director (Mission) of Agni V, and Mrs. Geeta Varadan, Director, Advanced Data Processing Research Institute ISRO, have been chosen for the prestigious Dr. Y. Nayudamma Memorial Award for the year 2014.

The award is being conferred on them jointly for their significant contributions in the fields of missile technology and remote sensing.

Announcing this in a media release, P. Vishnu Murthy, founder and Managing Trustee of the Dr. Y. Nayudamma Memorial Trust, says that this is the first time in the annals of the trust that two eminent women scientists are being concurrently honored. The award instituted in 1986 by the Dr. Yelavarthy Nayudamma Memorial Trust in Tenali of Andhra Pradesh, to commemorate the distinguished Scientist and internationally renowned leather technologist Nayudamma, is annually given to persons chosen for their outstanding contribution to science and technology.

According to Vishnu Murthy, the award will be presented to Dr. Tessy Thomas and Mrs. Geeta Varadan at a special function to be held at Tenali, the home town of Dr. Nayudamma, on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at which the award recipients will deliver the 23rd Dr. Y.Nayudamma Memorial Lectures on the themes “Make in India - Defense Needs and Initiatives” and “Remote Sensing Technology for National Needs” respectively.

Prof. Shanta Sinha, Ramon Magsaysay Award recipient,will present the award to Dr. Tessy Thomas and Mrs. Geeta Varadan.
