Forcible acquisition of land

  • Farmers not aware of risks in unconditional surrender of lands: YSRCP
  • CRDA being used to indulge in ‘real estate’ business, says Vadde
  • ‘No sanctity or value to CRDA receipts given to farmers’

Guntur: The Rythu Coolila Parirakshana Samithi, which represents farmworkers in the capital region, organised a ‘Aikya Vedika’ meeting at the Chillapalli Nageswararao Kalyana Mandapam in Mangalagiri town on Friday to explore prospects of launching a Joint Action Committee (JAC) with farmers’ representatives, people’s organisations and political leaders to fight the government’s strategy to bulldoze opposition and snatch away valuable lands from the farmers.

Farmers and representatives of people’s organisations and political parties participated in the meeting. The speakers at the meeting expressed solidarity with Anna Hazare, who was on fast in New Delhi against the amendment made to the Land Acquisition Act. A team of farmers and others supporting the agitation would leave for New Delhi to meet Anna Hazare and express the farmers’ support to him.

They would also make use of this opportunity to meet national leaders of various parties to seek their support to the agitation. YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Ambati Rambabu said many farmers were not aware of the risks involved in surrendering their lands to the government unconditionally. If awareness was created, half of those who gave consent letters would withdraw their letters, he said.

Former minister Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao said that the CRDA was being used to indulge in ‘real estate’ business. YSRCP Farmers’ Wing convenor MVS Nagireddy called for formation of village committees to educate farmers on the risks involved in surrendering of lands to government as the latter did not have funds to pay compensation to the farmers. Once the lands were given away, they would be made to run from pillar to post for compensation, he said.

Krishna Delta Parirakshana Committee president Kolanukonda Shivaji said there was a need to take the agitation to the national capital to exert pressure on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to withdraw his plan to acquire lands against the wishes of the farmers. All India Rythu Sangam leader Kumar Swamy said there was no sanctity or value to the receipts being given to farmers by CRDA for surrendering their lands in the form of consent letters.
