Campaign picks up momentum.During the past couple of days the candidate visited Guntur Medical College and government colleges in the city and solicited support for his candidature. Meanwhile, Tenali MLA Allapati Rajendra Prasad organised a meeting of teachers from seven mandals in Tenali constituency and requested their support to Rama Krishna\'s candidature.

Guntur: Campaigning for the Teachers MLC election to the Krishna-Guntur constituency has picked up momentum with all three major contenders A N Rama Krishna, sitting MLC A N Lakshmana Rao and Tadi Shakuntala making whirlwind tours of the two districts and leaving no stone unturned to garner support from the teaching community in the district.A N Rama Krishna, a ruling party nominee, is racing ahead in the campaign supported by several teachers’ associations and organisations. The ruling party MLAs and district Ministers are also working overtime to have their candidate elected to the Legislative Council.

Ministers P Pulla Rao and Ravella Kishore Babu have also joined the campaign, adding vigour to the highly-spirited campaign. The Ministers, along with the candidate, are visiting colleges and addressing small and big meetings to impress upon the voters to elect a candidate supported by the ruling TDP so that the pace of development could be faster in the education sector. Reforms and development of education sector is top on the agenda of the TDP government and all the issues of teachers’ fraternity would be resolved, assure the Ministers.

MLAs Allapati Rajendra Prasad, Nakka Anand Babu, Venugopala Reddy and G V Anjaneyulu are also campaigning for him.

Sitting MLC candidate K N Lakshmana Rao, supported by Progressive Democratic Front (PDF) and the United Teachers’ Federation. is also leaving no stone unturned to reenter the Legislative Council claiming that he and the PDF MLCs in the State had had done a lot to the community during the past eight years as an MLC. He says that as an experienced MLC, he knew the dynamics of the education sector and the challenges posed by the corporate education sector and that his reelection to the council would help him to carry forward his progressive ideas for the development of the teachers’ community.

He has extensively campaigned in Acharya Nagarjuna University which has substantial number of voters and sought their support to his mission of delivering the education sector from the clutches of corporate education sector. Tadi Shakuntala, former Mayor of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, supported by SC,ST,BC and minority organizations, also is confident of winning with her mass and vast support base of the marginalised sections. She has aggressively toured the delta areas of Bapatla, Tenali, Duggirala and Kollivara mandals and is campaigning for her victory supported by several leaders of the multiple organisations. The Bahujana Teachers Association and the SC,ST Employees’ Association leaders are actively campaigning for her victory.
