Shelter homes for orphan girls will be set up: Mayor

Speaking to the media here on Sunday after inspecting the shelter at Kamalanagar, they said that shelter homes were constructed for the destitute girls in the town and orphans who lost everything.

Anantapur: Anantapur Mayor Madamanchi Swaroopa and Municipal Commissioner Nagaveni said that orphanages would be set up in the town on the lines of those established in Delhi. Speaking to the media here on Sunday after inspecting the shelter at Kamalanagar, they said that shelter homes were constructed for the destitute girls in the town and orphans who lost everything. The Mayor said the programme was part of the initiative taken by the Central and State governments.

She said blankets would be distributed, electricity and water connections would be provided to the shelter homes. The government was examining a proposal to build such shelter homes for men also. She said that a committee was also set up for the purpose, she said. The Mayor said that the administration of destitute homes would be handed over to an NGO, VIDS Agency. The Municipal Commissioner and the Mayor directed the officials concerned to provide the basic infrastructure facilities in the guest houses.

RDO Navaneeth Krishna, Divisional Executive Engineer Venugopal, Additional Engineer Narasimha and others were present. Applications for ration cards Anantapur: Later, in a press release here on Sunday, City Mayor Swaroopa urged the people not having ration cards to apply for them as the state government would be issuing new ration cards so that they could reap the benefits of the welfare programmes taken up by the government.
