Singapore institute will help improve investor-friendly environment

Hyderabad: Singapore appears to have become a major partner in preparing various master plans for Andhra Pradesh. Singapore, which is in the process of finalising the master plan for creating a world-class capital city, is also in the process of designing a master plan for “Ease of Doing Business in AP.”

Though the government has yet to make public full details of the MOU , experts from the Asia Competitiveness Institute (ACI), an institute of excellence under the National University of Singapore, are entrusted with the responsibility of conducting research into the subject areas starting from how to start a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, land acquisition and registration of property, getting credit, protecting minority investors, taxes payments, trading across borders, enforcing contracts, insolvency and labour market regulations.

Apart from this, the ACI experts will provide guidance to the State government and its administrative machinery on the specific best practices to be adopted, and support them during the period of the MOU. Also, the team of experts will analyse the improvement of the best practices adopted year-on-year basis.

Besides, Andhra Pradesh, the NUS held discussions on proposals of similar kind and got positive feedback from Rajasthan, Delhi, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh and few more States in the country. The major thrust of these initiatives is to bring a change and improve the investor friendly environment in several States in the country, the CII sources added.
