Hyderabad: Despite mounting criticism and some advocates from Tamil Nadu moving the Supreme Court accusing Andhra Pradesh government of indulging in killing of innocent woodcutters in Seshachalam forests in Tuesday’s encounter, the state government has made it clear that it would not budge from its stand that the encounter was a real one and not a fake.

A highly-placed source informed The Hans India that the high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on the prevailing situation in the aftermath of the encounter discussed the contents of a report which was submitted to the government by the forest officials. This report, sources said, has clearly mentioned the names of the kingpins in the red sanders smuggling in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

They are from Chittoor and Kadapa districts in AP. These kingpins have political affiliations, the source said but refused to divulge further details about the report. Meanwhile, Minister for Forests Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy briefed the media that DGP J V Ramudu, additional advocate general, and other senior officials from forest and home departments apprised Naidu of the prevailing scenario in the Seshachalam forests, and the protests in Tamil Nadu.

They also informed the Chief Minister about the case filed in Supreme Court demanding an independent probe by CBI and judicial probe by retired SC judge. The issue of notices by National Human Rights Commission and the letter written by the Tamil Nadu CM to Naidu also figured during the meeting.

The meeting decided not to give any compensation for the deceased as it would set a wrong precedent. The AP police was also taking the stand that it had been sharing information with Tamil Nadu police about the sneaking of workers into the Seshachalam forests from their side but the TN police had done nothing to prevent them.
