EC okays bhoomi puja for Andhra Pradesh capital
The Election Commission of India on Thursday gave its nod for the ‘bhoomi puja’ for construction of the new capital of Andhra Pradesh. The state government had sought the permission of EC in view of the Election code that had come into force following notification for MLC elections under local body constituencies’ quota in the State.

In a press release issued on Thursday, Chief Electoral Officer of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Bhanwarlal said that conditional permission was also given to presentation of a report card on the achievements of the new government of the TDP. The EC has also okayed laying of foundation stone for the AP State Agricultural University in Guntur district.
However, the Election Commission said the government should not make any promise or announcement of any new scheme or programme. The CM or any other Minister shall not combine their official visit for these three programmes with the election campaigning for the forthcoming elections to Local Authorities’ constituencies.
