East Godavari district collector Arun Kumar on Thursday submitted a report on the Godavari stampede to Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (SHRC). The SHRC asked the collector to submit a detailed report on the stampede in which 27 pilgrims, 13 of them women, died and several others injured on the banks of the River Godavari.


In the report, the collector mentioned that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu took a holy dip at 6.26 am and the tragedy struck at around 8.30 am. The collector is said to have mentioned in the report that the police could not control the situation as there was a sudden surge of pilgrims. The list of deceased and their details were mentioned in the report.
