Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government is pitching for Rs 1.5 lakh-crore package from the Centre. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is expected to make this demand when he meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi later this month. The state government has prepared a 200-page dossier justifying the plea for special assistance.
The dossier also contains the feedback from media on the subject. This is aimed at informing the Centre the political mood in the state over special status. The state government will be asking for both special status and special package, sources informed The Hans India. The request of the state assumes significance in the wake of Prime Minister announcing Rs 1.25 lakh-crore election-eve special package to Bihar perhaps realising that politics rather than economics determines special packages or special status.
The Andhra Pradesh government is including the summary of reactions in the media and statements of political parties in the memorandum to be submitted to the Prime Minster. “Of course, this is a political promise to the state,” said a senior official involved in the preparation of the dossier.
The government dossier makes a strong case, both political and fiscal, to impress upon the Centre to accord both special status and special package to Andhra Pradesh, claim sources close to the Chief Minister. The state government estimates that the Centre should give at least Rs 65,000 crore to implement several things mentioned in the State Reorganisation Act itself.
