Vijayawada: The State government is understood to have decided to invoke the Land Acquisition Act 2013 in the capital villages to take the balance land for Amaravati. Though the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had asked the officials and the Ministers to interact with the farmers and convince them to give their lands in pooling 48 hours ago, the Minister for Agriculture Prathipati Pullarao, during his interaction with the media here on Wednesday, said that the government was going for land acquisition.
300 acres to be acquired in Thullur area for capital under first phase
The Minister said that the government would issue notification to acquire 300 acres of land in Thullur mandal which covers 20 villages in the capital region. This would follow a similar notification in the Tadepalli and Mangalagiri mandals at a later date. The Minister further said that the government is also planning to issue notification to acquire ‘lanka’ lands (located in the middle of the river) and the flood affected areas.
The Chief Minister, who met the farmers and the agriculture labourers two days back, had indicated at holding consultations with the farmers to give their lands to the capital in the existing land pooling system. The Chief Minister had also informed them of holding talks with the farmers of Undavalli and Penumaka villages of Tadepalli mandal to give their lands to the capital. He further indicated that the government would also consider increasing the compensation package to them considering the market value of these lands due to their proximity to the national highway and Vijayawada city.
However, the statement by the Agriculture Minister on invoking the Act is seen as yet another attempt by the government to take the lands from the disgruntled farmers who have been refusing to give up their lands. About a 100 farmers from various villages of the Thullur mandal have not given their lands insisting on the government to provide legality to the package. “We are not against building the capital here or giving our lands.
But, we have been asking the government to give legal status to the compensation promised to us in return to our lands. We have also placed a couple of demands before the government which are to be accepted with due legal sanctity,” asserted one of the farmers, Gadde Chandrasekhar Rao.
