Visakhapatnam: Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao held detailed discussions with the district administration and Eastern Naval Command on the arrangements being made for the International Fleet Review (IFR) scheduled to be held here from February 4 to February 8 next year.

Later talking to the reporters, Krishna Rao said arrangements were being made to make the international event a grand success. Navy units from over 80 countries are expected to participate. He said President Pranob Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Governor ELS Narasimhan, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Central and State ministers are participating in the five-day event.

A task force has been created under his leadership and several meetings were held in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. Most of the works for the review have been completed and the remaining works would be completed by the end of this year.

As per the schedule, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will arrive in the morning on day one of the event and pay tributes to the martyrs at the War Memorial on the Beach Road. Later, he will inaugurate maritime exhibition at the AU Engineering College Grounds and IFR village.

On the following day on February 5, Governor ELS Narasimhan would attend the inaugural programme of International Fleet Review at INS Satavahana grounds in which the Chief Minister will also participate as a special guest. On February 6, President Pranob Mukherjee will review the fleet to be held in the sea off the coast. The same evening he will attend the Bavay Band concert to be held at the Naval Auditorium Samudrika.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will witness the operation demonstration, international city parade and maritime conference. The closing ceremony would be held on February 8.

Earlier in the review meeting, GVMC Commissioner Praveen Kumar giving a power point presentation said 339 works were taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 74.08 crore and half of them have been completed and the remaining would be completed by December 15. Vice-Chairman of VUDA T Baburao Naidu said parks and tourist spots beautification works have been taken up with Rs 27.55 crore and they would be completed by the end of this year. Police Commissioner Amit Garg said 1.75 lakh people are expected to witness the fleet review on the Beach Road. People would be allowed to the spot on production of entry pass which would be issued free.

Vice-Admiral Bimal Kumar Varma of Eastern Naval Command was present at the review meeting.
