Sought-after schools holding interviews for both parents and kids

Vijayawada: The parents of toddlers are now taking time off to ensure they attend a one-to-one interaction with the management of reputed educational institutions. Given that the admissions are thrown open for enrolling the three-and-a-half-year-old tiny tots into the schools, parents are already busy arranging schedules to make it to the appointment. The most sought-after schools are now holding interviews for both parents and the kids, before admission.

Come third week of November, the convent schools and international franchises which are known for their discipline and standards invite admissions that are fixed. The schools like Siddhartha, Nirmala, N St Mathews (NSM), Atkinson, Don Bosco, Delhi Public School among others are high in demand from the parents, who lobby for a seat for their toddlers. The admission process is rather tough as the administrtors of these institutions essentially look for family background, capacity and behaviour of the applicants.

S Raja Rao, a parent, who was given an appointment with one of the institutions for admission of his daughter, was asked to be present, along with the family, with the details of the child and that of parents, including certificates of birth, identification, Aadhaar number, family photograph besides others just to attend the interview.

He says, “There were about 10 questions that were posed to my daughter. They questioned us (parents) of our personal and professional background such that they have sound knowledge about the kid that they enroll. My wife arrived here from East Godavari district for a one-hour interview for the child. However, the result will be declared only after a week’’.

Another school, which opened admissions for 240 seats, had received more than 800 applications within a span of 10 days. They have closed the admissions and restricted the entries. They are keen to select kids who are adaptable to their criterion. Admissions at the Christian institutions have been closed for the upcoming academic year already.

The Dean of the Delhi Public School, SB Rao, speaking to The Hans India said: “We actually do not make the children feel nervous. With a few questions, we make them talk, identify, listen and answer in order to know about the child’s physical and mental condition.

Instead, the parents will be questioned intensively of their capacity to handle a child at home, make them study. We prefer both the parents to be educated. We chose children upon critical examination. Not more than 20 children are taken for each section to ensure that they enjoy individual attention of the teachers”.
