Hyderabad: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced a hike in the honorariums for Anganwadi workers and helpers in Assembly here on Friday.

He made this announcement while wrapping up a discussion on paying tributes to architect of Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar, marking his 125th birth Anniversary.

The Chief Minister said that the Anganwadi workers and helpers have been serving lakhs of women and children in the State. The government wanted to hike their honorariums in recognition of their services, he added.

As part of this, Anganwadi workers honorarium would be hiked from present Rs 4,200 to Rs 7,000 per month.

Similarly, the current honorarium of the Mini Anganwadi workers and Helpers would be increased from the existing Rs 2,950 to Rs 4,500, the Chief Minister said.

The new hike would benefit about one lakh Anganwadi workers and mini Anganwadi worker and helpers. Currently, the State government is spending around Rs 395 crore on their wages. The hike will put an additional burden on Rs 709 crore on the exchequer, he added.Naidu further said, “The government wanted to effect the hike honorariums from this Friday itself but, due to constraints being faced by the State on financial front, the hike would be affected from April 1, 2016,” he said.
