Visakhapatnam: Excise personnel and rural police, including armed police and revenue personnel in a joint operation, destroyed ganja plantation worth Rs 1 crore spread over 10 acres at Moyyalagummi area under Pedabayalu mandal in Vizag Agency on Friday. Officials said around 80 personnel, including 40 from the excise department, armed personnel and others, were put into the destruction of the crop.

Deputy Commissioner of Excise C Vivekananda Reddy, who led the operation, warned the tribal farmers that action would be taken against them if they resume harvesting of ganja.The excise officials have identified three farmers, who have been growing ganja in that area for past few years, and are planning to register cases against them. The DC said ganja plantations in other areas in the Agency would be destroyed in the coming days with the support of the armed police personnel.
