Kakinada: The SFI East Godavari unit organised a rally in here on Friday protesting the government’s decision to allow foreign and private universities in the State.

The activists who assembled in large numbers staged demonstrations at various educational institutions in Kakinada, including at JNTU and ITI College. They raised slogans in favour of government universities and opposed the entry of private and foreign universities.

Speaking on the occasion, SFI district unit president T Raju alleged that due to lack of facilities in 18 existing universities in the State, students are opting for studies abroad. He also pointed out that more than 30 private universities in Chhattisgarh were closed as per the directive of Supreme Court. The SFI felt that the government should encourage public universities for the benefit of poor students.
