District Collector Ch Vijaymohan on Monday asked the Agriculture and related departments to prepare a plan of action by December 30 to face the drought situation in 40 mandals. He was speaking at a meeting to review the drought situation, water supply problems, availability of fodder and status of farm ponds and check dams. Vijaymohan wanted all CPW schemes, filter beds to be repaired utilising funds provided by the 13th and 14th Finance Commissions as also cleaning of water tanks and filter beds, besides chlorination to ensure that people did not face any drinking water shortage. If estimates of water needs, fodder and grass seed were prepared he would submit them to the government for approval. The Collector observed that officials of Agriculture, Horticulture and Micro Irrigation departments were way behind schedule in preparing the progress reports. He wanted them to show progress by crossing the targets for this week.

He asked officials to discuss with the sarpanches, MPTC/ ZPTC members for securing their suggestions on linking of water bodies, check dams and water sheds in the district. Vijaymohan asked DFOs to ensure supply of saplings to 1,000 schools before the Janmabhoomi programme and the Education and RWS officials to take care that the saplings survive. He said to meet the target of 340km CC roads in the district, Panchayat Raj SE Surendranath should secure permission for taking up 200 km road works this week and complete the task by March 2016. The Collector directed DPO Shobha Swaroopa to make sure that sanitation work and collection of house garbage/ dumping yards is expedited.

Reviewing last week’s Dial Your Collector programme, Vijaymohan advised the officials to strive to redress people’s complaints before the deadline. He wanted the district-level officials themselves to undertake field visits without waiting for reports of subordinates enabling them to take expeditious steps in finding solutions. Joint Collector II Ramaswamy and DRO Gangadhar Goud were among the officials present.
