Vijayawada: Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) city president R Ajay Kumar on Saturday said that the organisation, in support of Anganwadi workers, would take out a rally here on December 28.

He said the rally was planned to oppose the Telugu Desam government’s move on removing the workers and helpers, who took part in the protests held a few days ago in the city. The rally would demand roll back of the government’s decision on expelling the workers. It would be carried out from Lenin Centre to Raghavaiah Park.

At a round-table organised at CITU office near BRTS Road, it was decided that members of the affiliated groups and organsiations should come together in support of Anganwadi workers and helpers who have righteously demanded for their privileges and demands much before the government’s attempts to sack them.

“We would take the issue seriously since the workers who agitated in a democratic way are being suppressed by the ruling party governance,” said Ajay Kumar. It is known that the Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu, had directed the project directors of the Women and Child Welfare department to identify workers who took part in the protests and expel them from duties, they said.
