Presiding over the round-table conference, ZP Chairperson Girvani said that there was an absolute need to make Chittoor city free from anti-social elements. She gave a call to people and police personnel to play key role. She complimented the SP for taking initiative in organising the conference. She assured participants of conference that she would impress upon higher officials for sanctioning of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to be installed at vital points in the city. The ZP Chief felt that the gruesome murder of the Mayor could have been averted if at all CCTV cameras were installed. She appreciated police personnel for working round-the-clock to ensure people’s safety without celebrating festivals with their family members.
In his keynote address, the SP explained the need of installing CCTV cameras in the city to bring down crime rate. He said police officials have identified 50 junctions in the city for installation of CCTV cameras. He stated that 13 CCTV cameras were set up in the first phase and 18 stakeholders have come forward to sponsor CCTV cameras. “We have proposed to the State government for installation of CCTV cameras with an outlay of Rs 50 lakh,” he added.
The SP stressed on the immediate need of using technology to overcome challenges in policing. He stated that the command control centre which was set up in the city has been helping police in probing cases. He exuded confidence of Chittoor city becoming model one in the country by using technology extensively to avert crimes.
Joint Collector Narayan Bharath Gupta, Chittoor Municipal Mayor (Incharge) R Subri, Nagarajan (CPI), Hari Prasad (BJP), Jaya Kumar (Lok Satta) and others spoke in the conference.
