Visakhapatnam: Novotel Hotel located on the Beach Road, which is most visited hotel by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is not safe for public, said PAC member and Visakhapatnam north MLA P Vishnu Kumar Raju during the committee meeting with the officials here on Tuesday.

He said there was no firefighting equipment in the hotel and the way the staircase and lift were built, people cannot escape in the event of a major fire mishap. He sought a report from the officials how the hotel building plan was approved.

Similarly, a 34-floor apartment was coming up at Seethammadhara and sought a report on fire safety measures the promoters have taken up. Raju also sought a flyover as the huge apartment complex would choke the traffic during the peak hours.

Chairman of PAC Bhooma Nagireddy asked the officials why audit was not being conducted for GVMC, VUDA and JNURM works. Nagi Reddy expressed his displeasure at the officials for not taking back the land from Waltair Club even after an order was passed in 1995.
Furthermore, a target was kept to connect 13,000 houses to the underground drainage system in 2009, but only 10,400 houses could be connected with the drainage system. The chairman questioned the officials as to how the remaining houses were neglected.

He also asked why only three MLD of treated water being released into the sea by the treatment plants when it was targeted to cleanse 10 MLD of water.
