Vijayawada: Hundreds of students took out a rally from Pipula Road, Singh Nagar in the city here on Friday highlighting the ‘Badi Pilusthonde’ campaign aimed at decreasing the rate of school drop outs.

The rally was taken out by the National Child Labour Project (NCLP) as part of the third phase Janmabhoomi-Maa Vooru campaign. NCLP Project Director D Anjaneya Reddy, who flagged off the rally, underlined the need for promoting girl child education to end gender discrimination, which is still in vogue in the present day society.

Speaking on the occasion, Anjaneya Reddy called upon the teachers to play an active role in rejoining school dropouts. He exhorted that education is the only weapon for the poor and the orphan students to succeed in their life. He said that all the children had the right of pursuing higher education and the State government was offering the facility of complete fee reimbursement to the students hailing from the poor and economically backward classes.

Later, the NCLP Director, along with Circle Inspector B Bala Murali Krishna, participated in the signature campaign. Members of Childline, Care and Share, Navajeevan Bala Bhavan and other voluntary organisations also took part in the programme.
