There is a great danger to the mother tongue with those who are neglecting it in the love of foreign language, said Mandali Buddha Prasad, Deputy Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, while speaking at the opening ceremony of golden jubilee celebrations of Prakasam Zilla Rachayitala Sangham (PraRaSam) here at TTD Kalyana Mandapam on Friday.

Ongole: There is a great danger to the mother tongue with those who are neglecting it in the love of foreign language, said Mandali Buddha Prasad, Deputy Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, while speaking at the opening ceremony of golden jubilee celebrations of Prakasam Zilla Rachayitala Sangham (PraRaSam) here at TTD Kalyana Mandapam on Friday.

Transport Minister Sidda Raghava Rao, MLC Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, writer Kolakaluri Enoch, Ghajal maestro Srinivas, Battina Narasimha Rao, IV Reddy and others participated in the celebrations to be held for 3-days.

Siddha Raghava Rao appreciated the efforts made by the PraRaSam for the protection of Telugu language and the services extended by its members. Enoch released the souvenir of the golden jubilee celebrations. Buddha Prasad said that protection of Telugu language is a must. “We should launch a movement to protect the language from the influence of others. Those who are in the lust for the other languages are neglecting their mother tongue.

If this happens for few more years, there would be extinction of the language. If the language is extinct, the breed is also lost. We should also raise our voice against the anti-Telugu moves of the Tamil Nadu government and protest the injustice being meted out to the Telugus living there. Since the formation of PraRaSam in 1966, the organisation has rendered great services to the Telugu language. We should not forget the efforts of the organisation in fetching the classical language status to Telugu.”

As part of the celebrations, the PraRaSam members, Telugu linguists and fans organised a walk with the portrait of Telugu Talli from Addanki bus stand to the venue. The PraRaSam president Hanuma Reddy who started the walk said it is the duty of every individual to come forward to protect Telugu language. Writers from the Hosur writers association also participated in the programme and requested support for the protests against the Tamil Nadu government for withdrawing Telugu teaching schools in their State.
