Nellore: District Collector M Janaki said that there are around 22 lakh voters in the district, who are eligible to vote. She made an appeal to people to register their names in the electoral list.

Addressing a meeting organised at Kasturba Kalakshetram on Monday in connection with the National Voters’ Day, the Collector said every youngster, who attained the age of 18, can enroll as voters.

She said one can register their names through official website of the AP Election Commission or even at the nearest Mee Seva centres. She launched a tableau for creating awareness among population on need of enrolling as voters.

Vikrama Simhapuri University Vice-Chancellor Prof V Veeraiah said people, who have not enrolled as voters, have to do it as a responsible citizen of India for participating in the election process. He said youngsters and educated are now form the 50 per cent of voters in India. “Now, technology has improved significantly and they can enroll using websites and other media for hassle-free registration,” he added.

Later, the Collector administered an oath with the participants and handed over prizes to the winners of various competitions conducted in connection with the Voters’ Day. She also felicitated senior citizens. Joint Collector A Md Imtiyaz, DRO M Sudarshan Reddy, DEO D Anjaneyulu, RDO Venkateswarlu, Municipal Commissioner PVVS Murthy and others were present.

Kadapa: District Collector NV Ramana made an appeal to the public to enroll their names in the electoral list so that they can become eligible for casting their votes in the elections. A rally was organised marking the National Voters’ Day on Monday. Rally began from state guest house and culminated with the meeting at Neik Naam Khan Kalashetram in which District Judge Raghava Rao, Superintendent of Police (SP) Naveen Gulati, students and others took part.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramana asked those who have completed 18 years of age to register their names in the electoral list. He said that the National Voters’ Day was observed first time in the country on January 25, 2011.

District Judge Raghava Rao said that casting once vote is the birth right of every citizen in the country. The SP Naveen Gualti everybody in the society should use their rights with responsibility for better rule.

Later, the dignitaries distributed prizes to the students who stood first, second, third places in the competitions held in the schools and colleges. They also felicitated voters, who have been casting vote regularly on this occasion.
