Vijayawada: APSRTC Managing Director and Vice –President N Sambasiva Rao stressed the need for fuel conservation, and said that every improvement of 0.1 KMPL of HSD can save about Rs 250 crore annually for the corporation.

The RTC MD was the chief guest at the presentation of the ‘Best HSD KMPL Awards’ on Wednesday, where RTC drivers from across the State were given away awards for saving fuel. The function was organised by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) at RTC House on the occasion of Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight from January 16 to 31.

Speaking on the occasion, Sambasiva Rao said that at present the corporation is receiving 5.5 kmpl levels. Any wastage of the precious fuel will result in a loss for the organization. He wanted all the drivers to make it 5.6 kmpl to benefit the corporation. As of now 20 per cent of the drivers in the corporation are reaching 5.5 kmpl, he said.

The RTC MD also called upon the drivers to take initiative of conserving four to five litres per a day, and maintain 6 kmpl can save Rs 350 crore per annum, which automatically bring back the corporation from financial crisis. He said that bio-diesel was also introduced in many depots across the State as an alternative attempt for conserving the petroleum products.

Later, the MD congratulated the drivers and said that saving fuel resulted in the saving of the foreign exchange reserves. Ch Bhaskar Rao, a driver from Nellore, received the first award for the best KMPL rate of 4.0. In all, 107 employees including drivers and mechanics from all over the State were rewarded for being the best in fuel conservation. The targeted HSD KMPL has been achieved by 61 drivers for the years 2014-15.

HPCL Country Head Surendra Gupta, regional manager Chandra Mouli, RTC Director Vigilance and Security KVV Gopala Rao, Executive Director (Engineering) A Koteswara Rao, Financial Advisor Bhuvaneswar Prasad, ED (Admin) A Venkateswara Rao, ED (Operations) G Jaya Rao and other officials were also present.
