9 held for settling case
The Chirala police arrested nine persons, including a police constable, for settling a case of rape of a minor girl with Rs 50,000 on Friday and registered case under various sections of POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act ) and Prevention of SC, ST Atrocities Act.

Ongole: The Chirala police arrested nine persons, including a police constable, for settling a case of rape of a minor girl with Rs 50,000 on Friday and registered case under various sections of POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act ) and Prevention of SC, ST Atrocities Act.
The girl (15) was raised by Mekala Anjaneyulu and Mahalakshmi, residents of Chinaganjam, as she has no parents. The couple used to torture her and send her to sell hair extensions in the nearby villages. One Durga Prasad, an auto driver of Ayodhya Nagar sexually exploited her promising to marry her before Christmas last year.
As he failed to keep his promise, the girl revealed the issue to her guardians Anjaneyulu and Mahalakshmi. The couple along with Amanchi Srinu, Amanchi Koteswara Rao, K Venkateswarlu and police constable Kishore as middlemen, called Durga Prasad and his relatives and demanded compensation.
Durga Prasad paid Rs 50,000 as compensation for the rape and the girl’s family signed documents stating that the girl and Durga Prasad would have no relationship in the future. As the guardians continued to harass the girl, the girl ran away from home and took shelter with Childline.
The Childline coordinators complained to the police about the harassment of the guardians, about the rape and the case settlement.
Chirala DSP Jayarama Raju said, “We have arrested 9 persons out of the total 12 accused. A case has been registered at Vetapalem police station. Search is on to nab the absconding accused. The arrested would be produced in the court on Saturday.”
