Eluru: The gold merchants in the city staged protest in One Town on Friday opposing police raids on them. They downed shutters on Friday in protest against the raids carried out by Vijayawada police on a bullion merchant in the city.
The merchants led by Eluru City Bullion Merchants’ Association closed the business till evening. The leaders said Vijayawada police picked up a merchant from his shop in the morning without citing any reason. They alleged that the police had violated court orders which mandate police personnel of other stations to inform the local police if they were to carry out a raid.
