Chittoor: Presumed to be a 1000-year-old, Dharmarajula Swamy temple in Kanipaka Patnam village has not yet come to the notice of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) even though it is located at a distance of 8 km from Chittoor city. The TTD has included 5,400 temples both in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka states under ‘Man Gudi’ programme but not this temple.

As no one has taken interest to take care of ancient temple, a poor family in the village has been performing rituals every day. A woman, Subbi (32) and her mother have taken up the maintenance of the temple. It is learnt that temple has not come to the notice of the Endowment officials as it has no lands. There are no archeological indications to presume the actual date of temple construction.

Speaking to The Hans India, uneducated woman, Subbi, who is worshipping the deities in the temple from a long time, has expressed anguish that neither the State government nor the TTD has taken measures to take care of the temple despite making several representations to them through officials concerned in the village.

“This is an ancient temple where there are the idols of Dharmaraja, Draupadi, Bhimasena, Arjuna, Nakula, Sahadeva and Sri Krishna. Our meagre earnings are not enough for temple maintenance,” she said.

She stated that it is difficult to her family to bear the expenses as no devotees visit the temple. Subbi exuded confidence that deities will meet all the needs of the temple. She requested the TTD to include the temple in ‘Mana Gudi’ programme. It is also learnt that the name of the temple is not recorded with the Endowments department.
