Hyderabad: Justice P V Sanjay Kumar of the High Court at Hyderabad on Wednesday served notices on the State government and AP Legislative Assembly secretary seeking response to the suspension of YSRCP MLA Roja. The judge was dealing with a petition filed by petitioner R K Roja questioning her suspension from the Assembly for a period of one year.

Additional Advocate General Mr Dammalapati Srinivas pointed out that it was well within the rights of the Speaker to suspend an MLA and that the suspension of the MLA was a collective decision of the House. He pointed out that as the suspension was not punitive in nature, the case of the petitioner being heard did not arise and the suspension was only from Assembly proceedings and her full salary would be paid to her.

When Srinivas pointed out to the court that a committee was formed to look into the matter of suspension, the judge enquired the motive of the appointed committee. The judge adjourned the matter to February 29 granting time to the State government and the Secretary of the Assembly to respond.
