Nellore: District Collector M Janaki advised horticulture farmers to adopt advanced techniques for achieving higher yield. She addressed a workshop on use of micronutrients and micro irrigation in mango and acid lemon cultivation at new ZP conference hall here on Wednesday.

Janaki said farmers are cultivating acid lemon and mangoes in 17,000 hectares in the district and asked them to adopt advanced techniques for good results and assured needed technical support from the government departments.

The Collector also said the State government has been focusing on micro irrigation that saves water and fertilisers by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of many different plants.

Scientist Dr Subbarao, who specialises in acid lemon cultivation, Mango cultivation expert Dr Satyanarayana, agricultural scientist Dr Govindarajulu and others, presented measures to improve yielding in the horticulture crops using micro nutrients and micro irrigation.

They also created awareness about various methods to be used for prevention of pests and diseases in mango and acid lemon cultivation. Senior officials from Micro Irrigation, Horticulture, ATMA, and other departments, farmers from various mandals were present.
