Vijayawada: The Left parties will stage ‘Chalo Assembly’ protest on March 15, demanding a comprehensive package of Rs 1,000 crore for the development of Rayalaseema districts. Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, CPM State secretary P Madhu flayed Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for his inefficiency to secure special category status to the State.

The Chief Minister has become a puppet in the hands of corporate sector and spoiling the interests of farmers, he alleged. He further said Naidu was safeguarding the interests of multi-national companies. Madhu pointed out that farmers in Rayalaseema region had been facing problems due to unfavourable weather conditions.

“The whole State is eagerly waiting for the grant of special category status by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At least now, the Chief Minister should accord top priority for the welfare of the Rayalaseema region by prevailing upon the Centre over the special package assured for the development, Madhu demanded.

The CPM leader wanted the Chief Minister to complete the ongoing irrigation projects by allocating adequate budget in the ensuing Assembly session. “If required funds are allocated, the Galeru-Nagari and Handri-Neeva projects will help irrigate cultivable lands in the Rayalaseema region,” he observed.

CPI State secretary K Ramakrishna demanded that the special category status for the State and special package for Rayalaseema should be sanctioned as promised in the AP Reorganisation Act. He alleged that the Chief Minister was neglecting the Galeru Nagari project and this was detrimental to the interests of Rayalaseema region.

The TDP government should complete all the pending irrigation projects in Rayalaseema before taking up Pattiseema. The government should focus on all-round development of the State,” he said. Ramakrishna also said that Left parties would stage ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ protest on March 22, demanding that the State government should resolve the housing problems across the State.
