Vijayawada: Road widening works between Chittinagar and Errakatta in Frizerpet are going at brisk pace to ease the traffic during the peak hours. The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) is widening the road on war footing basis due to the increasing traffic as the Kanaka Durga temple highway was closed due to flyover construction works for the last three months. A large number of vehicles are passing on Errakatta road and heavy traffic is expected to continue till July or August, 2016.

Earlier, the road was very narrow with width of only 50 feet at at some places. Consequently, traffic is blocked on the road at Chittinagar junction every day. To ease the traffic problem, the VMC is doing the road widening work at brisk pace and would like to complete the work in one month. A senior officer in town planning department said the VMC is widening the Errakatta road to 80 feet as per the master plan. He said the VMC is also planning to widen the KT road to 100 feet road as the traffic is increasing on the road after Vijayawada was made the temporary capital of Andhra Pradesh. Road widening and developing works are also going at brisk pace down the Errakatta in Kedareswarapet.

The VMC acquired several hundred square yards private land and started the widening works two months ago. The works will be completed in one month, said the official.
