Eluru: West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar has called upon the people to give freedom and equality to every family for all-round development of women in society. He was participating as chief guest at the International Women’s Day celebrations at St Theresa’s Autonomous College at Gowravaram here on tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that no development was possible with the oppression of women in the family as well as in society. He called upon people to encourage women in education on par with the males. “This is unfortunate situation and I request not to encourage such type of persons. I observed in Gram Panchayats where when women Sarpanch elected, their husbands are giving orders in their places. Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Bhushan said the police administration would take an active role in maintaining the law and order to provide security to the women.

Eluru Mayor Sheikh Noorjahan called upon the women to get the 33 per cent reservation bill passed in the Parliament. She said that out of 50 divisions in Eluru Corporation, 27 were represented by women, she said.
