Hyderabad: The ruling TDP is not bothered with the opposition YSRCP’s move of issuing a whip to its MLAs to vote against the money appropriation bill on the last two days of the budget session that is underway. A source within the ruling party said, “Twice YSRCP tried its luck to nail us by moving no confidence motion; once against the council of Ministers and second time against the Speaker. And, the latest move, to seek a vote on the money appropriation bill, would go the way of earlier ones.”
The TDP leaders feel that they succeeded in sending a message that the eight YSRCP MLAs had joined in its fold due to the autocratic functioning of that party chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy. Further, time and again, the main opposition raised its voice pressing for discussion on the issues like drought, agriculture, price rise of essential commodities.
But, when it was time to take on the government, even at the slightest provocation from the treasury benches, they have lost it. It has become a regular ritual for the YSRCP MLAs to disrupt proceedings by staging protest in front of Speaker’s podium demanding more time for their leader to talk.
During the last budget session too, they had walked out in a similar way and it had turned into an advantage for the ruling party to get its budget proposals passed. “This time around, YSRCP gave 25-point agenda for discussion and the TDP has given a list of 17 subjects. Of them, ten subjects tabled by both the ruling and opposition are common,” said TDP chief Whip Kalava Srinivasulu.
However, several of these subjects have not come up for discussion because of YSRCP’s focus on no-confidence motion, to nail its defected MLAs under the anti-defection law. It has also lost two days on the issue of suspension of its MLA RK Roja. The ruling party is keen to raise the common issues for discussion to provoke the opposition. “Even a simple walk out of that party is enough for the ruling party to get its business passed without any hurdles,” said a senior leader from the ruling party.
