Vijayawada: It is going to be five-day week for the secretariat and other employees at Amaravati from June this year. This system would be implemented for one year after shifting the employees to the new capital from Hyderabad.

This was decided here on Wednesday by the State government at a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA). The meeting has also decided to provide dedicated bus services for the employees to reach the new capital.

The employees, both those from the secretariat and those from the Heads of Departments (HoDs), would be shifted in three phases from June to August. The Chief Minister asked Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana to speed up the process of preparing the list of employees to be shifted in the three phases.

He also directed them to decide on the space to be provided to the staff according to the sections and departments at the new secretariat. He wanted the Minister to ensure that the contractors also plan for the two additional floors on the temporary secretariat building coming up at Velagapudi village.

Meanwhile, the CRDA officials have informed the Chief Minister that they have started marking of lands for the expressway to the capital from the Chennai-Kolkata national highway at Kanakadurgamma Varadhi, the bridge across the river Krishna.

The expressway passes through the villages of Tadepalli mandal. The local residents raised objections to the officials marking for the road on their lands which were not given in pooling for the government. The six-lane expressway would be the connecting point for the new capital for the people from the north and southern parts of the State from Srikakulam to Chittoor.

As the CRDA had made markings for the expressway in their lands, the farmers protested against it following which the Mangalagiri legislator Alla Ramakrishna Reddy visiting them and inspecting the road markings. He said the CRDA cannot use force to acquire lands and extended support to them.
