Madanapalle: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed the district officials to ensure the completion of the 669-km long Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) canal construction works as per schedule. Naidu, who inspected the tunnel works of the canal at Kollabailu village near here, on Saturday, instructed the officials to complete digging of tunnel in 90 days by engaging two more machines.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, HNSS canal works were taken up under 28 packages and 470-km long canal work was already completed. He said that 38 lifts would be set up. With regard to the 143-km long Kuppam branch canal, Naidu said that the land acquisition is going on in full swing as the farmers are voluntarily coming forward to give up their lands for the canal, which passes through 8 mandals.

He wanted the contractors and engineers to work in tandem for the time-bound completion of works and in the same breath warned that those, who failed to complete the works as per schedule will be black-listed. Claiming that Neeru-Chettu programme, which was launched last year helped to improve ground water, the CM called on the people to take up the harvesting of rain water as a movement.

“Every drop of water should be saved,” he said seeking the farmers to join hands in saving rain water by constructing 100 farm ponds in every village. He directed the officials to construct summer storage tanks wherever needed to provide water to agriculture, cattle and industry.

Reacting on the case filed in the High Court against TTD taking up the reconstruction of 100 tanks in Tirupati area, he said that government will take required steps to counter it, reaffirming government resolve to develop the pilgrim city as city of lakes. “In Anantapur, Satya Sai Seva Trust is providing drinking water to villages.

The government desires the TTD to play the same role in taking of such social initiatives,” he averred. Naidu said that the government will not faze at those obstructing development and would go on with renewed vigour. “Despite many hurdles, we completed Pattiseema as per schedule which is government’s victory,” he added.

On the occasion, the CM visited a photo exhibition on HNSS canal works organised by irrigation department. Minister for Water Resources Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana, Tamballapalle MLA Sankar Yadav, District Collector Sidharth Jain and others were present.
