Madanapalle (Chittoor): In an effort to accelerate the development initiatives including Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) canal works, laying of cement concrete roads and construction of farm ponds under Panta Sanjeevani and also check the functioning of government institutions, District Collector Siddharth Jain along with local MLA G Shankar Yadav and district officials made a day long whirlwind inspection in the most backward Thamballapalle Assembly segment in Chittoor district on Wednesday.

The Collector and other district officials and MLA boarded on a bus and covered all the mandals in the constituency, where they inspected the progress of the HNSS canal and feeder channel works and also the construction of farm ponds and laying of CC roads in the villages including T Sadum, B Gollapalli, Vyasasamudram and many others villages in the mandals of B Kothakota, Pedda Tippa Samudram, Peddamandayam and Mulakalacheruvu mandals.

The Collector, who interacted with the beneficiaries of Panta Sanjeevani told them that should make every effort to see that not even a drop of rain water go waste. He also wanted them to switch over to horticulture crops as water intensive crops like paddy and sugarcane is not feasible and instructed the officials to provide ORS packets to those engaged in farm pond construction works.

The Collector interacted with onion farmers at Potupeta in Pedda Tippa Samudram mandal and assured them to provide a cold storage facility for avoiding distress sale of their produce. They said that some time they were forced to sell the perishable onions for loss due to lack of proper storage facility.

During the inspection of Thamballapalle hospital, the Collector found the ‘free test’ scheme covering 1,250 tests, is still to be fully implemented in the hospital with several facilities were not so far provided in the hospital. Jain also interacted with a farmer carrying tractor load of sand for his construction purpose.

The farmer said he had not paid anything etc. and the sand is meant for his construction purpose and not for illegal sale in other States. The Collector also directed the officials to set up procuring centres for the purchase of paddy from farmers so that they get support price of Rs 1,450 per quintal.

The farmers took up cultivation of paddy after a gap of 15 years in many villages, following sufficient rains in November and December last year. Local MLA G Shankar Yadav said that he was elated as the district administration turning its focus on the backward Thamballapalle Assembly constituency for its development.
