Visakhapatnam: The credit of introducing reservation system to uplift the most oppressed goes to Dr B R Ambedkar, said Project Officer of Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) M Harinarayanan.

Paying rich tributes to the architect of Indian Constitution, Harinarayanan said basing on the contents of the Fifth Schedule, the ITDAs are extending service to the tribals. Sub-Collector Siva Sankar Lotheti dwelt about Ambedkar’s childhood, education, suppression, freedom struggle and political life. Former Minister M Mani Kumari and ASP Sasi Kumar also spoke.

Earlier, a large number of students, officials, employees, teachers and public representatives took out a rally from the Sub-Collector office after garlanding the statue of Ambedkar to the meeting venue.

Later, local MLA Giddi Eswari, who distributed tractors to tribal farmers on the occasion, called upon the beneficiaries to utilise the government schemes. She informed that of the total tractor cost of Rs 8 lakh, the beneficiary share was only Rs 4 lakh and the remaining was the subsidy given by the ITDA.

Seven farmers were given tractors and 42 others were given subsidised agriculture tools and implements.
