Sri Rama Navami festival was celebrated with pomp and gaiety here in the city on Friday. Devotees offered prayers at various temples. At famous Sri Kodandarama Swamy temple here, huge crowds stood in serpentine queues from the early hours for offering prayers to Lord Sri Rama and his consort Sita Devi. Temple officials have arranged a separate line for women. 

Chittoor: Sri Rama Navami festival was celebrated with pomp and gaiety here in the city on Friday. Devotees offered prayers at various temples. At famous Sri Kodandarama Swamy temple here, huge crowds stood in serpentine queues from the early hours for offering prayers to Lord Sri Rama and his consort Sita Devi. Temple officials have arranged a separate line for women.

Elaborate arrangements were made at temple to avoid inconvenience to devotees. Temple trust board Chairperson Suguna and the Executive Officer Subramanyam have personally supervised queue lines. Devotees were provided with prasadam, vadapappu and panakam. Temple authorities also organised Annadanam programme for devotees.

Speaking to The Hans India here, temple Chairperson Suguna said that all important pujas were suspended on Friday to facilitate hassle-free darshan for devotees. She appreciated cooperation of police personnel for regulating the queue lines. She stated that devotees were provided with drinking water and buttermilk due to severe heat.

She said that more than 10,000 devotees have offered prayers at the temple. At Police Colony, District Superintendent of Police (SP) G Srinivas took initiative in organising festival celebrations at Sri Rama temple in a grand manner. After performing pujas to presiding deity, the SP served prasadam and food items to members of police families.

Speaking to the media, the SP said it is an auspicious occasion for family members of the Police department to gather and offer prayers to Lord Sri Rama. He stated that festival celebrations will be organised at the temple every year. He assured of developing the temple in the colony with voluntary contributions from police personnel.
