Markapuram: Hitherto Nagireddy Palle under Konakanamitla mandal in Prakasam is a nondescript village, but now it is a brand to be reckoned with.

The tiny village, with a population of about 1000, has been recognised as litigation-free village by the district Legal Services Authority for achieving the remarkable feat of recording zero criminal, civil or any other cases in the past five years.

High Court judges Sesha Sai and Sunil Chowdhary, who visited the village on Wednesday, gave away ‘Litigation-Free Village’ award at a ceremony organised in the village. Scores of men and women participated in the event.

Nagireddy Palle was formed about 20 years ago by breaking away from Garladinne panchyat. Although most of our villages are congenial and peaceful all the time, elections and electioneering brings a dark side of the denizens with rival groups fighting for one-upmanship.

However, Nagireddy Palle is also an exception even in this regard. The villagers here elect sarpanches and MPTCs unanimously, thereby winning special development grant from the government for electing its representatives without any poll.

Committed to the development of the village, elected representatives spend the development funds with utmost sincerity. The cement roads in all streets, independent and pucca houses, drinking water distribution system, pensions for the eligible stands testimony to what could be termed as a ‘model village’.

“We wanted a peaceful atmosphere in the village, but didn’t expect this recognition. As the elections are unanimous, there are no issues of political rivalry here.

If there is any small issue like family disputes, we try to resolve them in presence of both families,” says MPTC Bireddy Venkata Reddy, who earlier served as sarpanch thrice. Konakanamitla SI Brahmanaidu, under whose jurisdiction the village falls, is all praise for the villagers of Nagireddy Palle.

“The villagers are peace-loving and cooperative with the authorities. The Konakanamitla mandal has 26 panchayats, and we have one or two complaints regularly from other panchayats except Nagireddy Palle.

We request all other villagers to draw inspiration from this village and lead a peaceful and dispute-free life.” Meanwhile, senior civil judge and secretary of the District Legal Services Authority Raja Venkatadri says: “We announced awards to villages in order to encourage villagers to lead peaceful life.

The award will boost the morale of the villagers for leading a dispute-free life and inspire others to do the same. We are going to recommend the district and state authorities to see all the schemes of the government to be implemented in the litigation-free villages to attract more villages to do the same.”
